SALEM- Mr. Francis P. Mahoney, 76, of Salem, succumbed to lung cancer, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Salem he was the son of the late Timothy and Helen (Kellett) Mahoney. An honorably discharged veteran he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He also served as one of the City of Salem's Assistant Harbor Masters.
Mr. Mahoney had been employed by Intertek as a Petroleum Inspector and through his dedication and hard work he was promoted to Operations Scheduler, working for the company for over 30 years. A well respected member in the Petroleum Industry, Francis was well known up and down the Eastern sea coast as an expert in his field.
A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, Francis was an active member of the VFW Witch City Post 1524, the PLAV Post 55 and Knights of Columbus, Veragua Coucil 76 all of Salem.
A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Francis enjoyed being with his family and friends with whom he shared many a good times. Francis touched many lives and will be deeply missed by those who knew him and if you knew him, you loved him.
Francis is survived by his sons, Sean Mahoney and his wife Kathleen of Peabody, Matthew Mahoney and his wife Dee of Georgetown, his daughter, Maureen (Mahoney) Wojcik of Peabody, his seven grandchildren, Samantha Rosano, Travis Wojcik, Jarrod Wojcik, Melissa Heaphy and her husband Steffan, Jennifer Clement and her husband Justin, Kristin Mahoney, and Nicole Mahoney, his 4 great-grandchildren, Logan Heaphy, Evan Heaphy, Jacob Clement and Cecily Clement, his siblings, Lois Wilcox of Florida, Judith Brown of Wellsley and Timothy Mahoney, Jr. of New Hampshire.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, on Tuesday, September 15th 2015 at 10 A.M.. Relatives and friends invited. Burial is private. Visiting hours Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may be made in Francis' name to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road #400, Waltham, MA 02451 or to the VFW Witch City Post 1524, 95 Derby St., Salem, MA 01970.
