Frederick G. Henrichs

BEVERLY - Frederick G. Henrichs, 82, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2026, after an extended illness. Beloved by his wife, Elise, his two children and five grandchildren, Fred spent his final days in the company of his family.

Fred was born in Orange, NJ, on December 5, 1943, to Frederick G. Henrichs and Alfreda (Jensen) Henrichs. He moved to MA to attend Gordon College, studying history, and then Northeastern University, earning a master’s degree in education. Teaching was his calling, and his entire career, from 1966 to 2002, was at Westford Academy in Westford, MA.

Fred taught ancient and European history, coordinated the high school’s ski program at Wachusett Mountain for 17 years, and led several European travel seminars for students during the summer months. He endeavored to teach young people personal independence, confidence, and responsibility alongside academics.

A lifelong learner, Fred traveled widely, including on a Fulbright scholarship to India and Asia, and to teach English in Japan and Korea. He read extensively on history, philosophy, psychology, and eastern religions. “Follow your bliss” is wisdom he lived by, while also modeling careful planning and thrift.

High school sweethearts in Union, NJ, Fred and Elise made their home in West Newbury, MA, for 52 years. They raised their family on Maple Street, where Fred avidly tended perennial gardens. Later, when their children settled nearby, Fred brought his generous energy and abundant plants to their yards. The gardens he created continue to bring joy and new life.

In addition to his cherished Elise, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, Fred leaves his son, Edward and his wife Ana, and their daughters, Ariana, Bianca, and Cristina; his daughter, Heidi and her husband Daniel, and her sons, Samuel and Ethan; as well as Sanford Paek, whom Fred held dear as family.

Caring for loved ones, including extended relatives and close friends, was Fred’s central purpose. He was a devoted husband to Elise, a steady guide to his children, and an imaginative playmate for his grandchildren. In faith, he entered heaven’s gates with thanksgiving and praise.
