BEVERLY - Gerald "Sonny" Jones, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 8th surrounded by members of his family.

Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of Gerald and Nora (Reardon) Jones and the loving husband of Florence "Chickie" (Carlo) Jones, who passed away in 2012.

A lifelong resident of Massachusetts, Sonny was employed in the Construction Industry for the duration of his career. A former, long-time member of the ICC and ELKS Clubs in Beverly, as a youngster, Sonny was a prize fighter competing in amateur boxing events; a sport he continued to enjoy throughout his life. Along with his love of football, baseball and boxing, Sonny was an engaging and spirited political debater, always willing to listen to varied views and finding a middle ground.

A voracious reader of several daily newspapers, as well as any books and magazines he could get his hands on, Sonny was delighted to share a Schlitz, or two, discuss headline news, and engage in history and movie trivia. Sonny was most comfortable knowing that those he cared for were doing well in life and less concerned about himself. He loved being alive. He will be sorely missed by all those that he loved.

Sonny is survived by his children, David Jones and his wife, Faye of Delray Beach, FL, Sandra Lerner of Peabody, Virginia Shea of Beverly, Jerry Jones of Salem, and Michael Jones of Lynnfield, along with eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
