SALEM – Mr. Gilbert Underhill Hoss, “Gil”, 83 of Salem and the loving husband of Claire M. Tobin passed away after a courageous fight against cancer on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Rosedale, Queens, New York, Gil was the only child born to the late Gilbert and Octavia (Franz) Hoss. He was raised and educated in Queens, graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1960. With a thirst for knowledge, Gil continued his education at St. John’s University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in 1965 and continued his education at Southern New Hampshire University where he earned his MBA.

An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy, Gil enlisted into the military following his college graduation as an ensign.
