PEABODY – Gillian Charters, 84, of Peabody, passed away on December 7, 2025 at her residence at Brooksby Village in Peabody.

Born in England, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Nel (Archer) Charters. Gillian was primarily raised and educated in London. She moved to the United States in her early twenties to pursue new opportunities. Gillian earned her master’s degree in political science from the École School and went on to build a distinguished 26-year career at Harvard University, serving as Director of Publications for alumni bulletins.

Beyond her accomplished career, Gillian filled her days with the things that brought her joy. Scottish country dancing was a treasured part of her routine, and twice each week she immersed herself in its lively steps and warm community. She was a devoted reader, an expressive fiddle player, and a member of the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club. Gillian loved the game of tennis and had a remarkable gift for languages, speaking several with ease and enthusiasm. She was also a devoted and longtime member of the Christian Science Church in Beverly, faithfully serving her church community for many years.

Those who knew her will remember her sharp wit, her artistic soul, and the gentle warmth she carried into every room. Her influence lives on through the friendships she nurtured, the music she made, and the integrity she brought to all she did.

Gillian is survived by her cousin, Susan Vickridge, her close friend, Carolyn Keith, and by many other friends.
