Gloria F. Hayes

SALEM – Mrs. Gloria F. (Desrocher) Hayes, 90 of Marblehead, formerly of Salem, beloved wife of 64 years to the late Donald E. Hayes of Salem, died on April 18, 2026.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the Late Donat and Meralda (Plante) Desrocher. She attended the former St. Joseph Grammar School and graduated from Salem Vocational High School, as a member of the class of 1950.

As a young woman, Gloria had been employed by George W. Marquis Insurance until the time of her marriage in 1960 to Donald. Following the raising of her six children, Mrs. Hayes worked for ten years at the Salem Witch Museum and sixteen years at Chartwells located at Salem State College food court as a cashier until the time of her retirement in 2009. She cherished her time in both roles, where every customer, student or tourist became a friend.

Gloria relished spending time with her loving family. She enjoyed bike riding, sunbathing, gardening, ice skating, and shopping. With an outgoing nature and ever-present smile, connecting with friends and neighbors came easy to Gloria and she took great pride in all of the connections and relationships she made throughout her life.

She was a longtime, dedicated communicant of the former Saint Joseph’s Parish in Salem.

Gloria is survived by her five daughters, Arlene FitzGerald and her husband, Kevin, Susan Ryan and her husband, Edward, Julie Casterline and her husband, Robert, Kathleen Rainer, and Janice Manninen and her husband, Richard; her grandchildren, Jacob, Sara and Brendan Rainer, Alexa, Christa and Stephen Goutzos, Timothy, Matthew, and Katelyn Ryan, and Aidan FitzGerald, her four great grandchildren, her siblings, Lorraine McLaughlin, Janette Daunais, Pauline Malionek, Norman Desrocher, and Edward Desrocher and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gloria was the mother of the late Thomas Hayes and sister of the late Robert Desrocher.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gloria’s funeral service which will be held at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 at 12 noon.
