DANVERS - Grace E. (Hicks) Carabineris, 100, of Danvers, passed away on Friday, February 10th, 2023, in Hathorne Hill, Danvers. She was born in Danvers on September 5th, 1922 to the late Clyde Cecil and Philomine (Buteau) Hicks, the third of five children. She was educated in Danvers schools, graduating from Danvers High School in 1940. Grace was the wife of the late John H. Carabineris, Sr., who died on March 24th, 2017.
Grace was a coil winder for many years at Hotwatt; previously she had worked at Sylvania. She and her late husband loved to travel, both across the U.S. and abroad; Greece and Ireland were favorite destinations. She was a lifelong member of All Saints (formerly Calvary) Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. In her later years, she belonged to a women's group at the church who crocheted prayer shawls for those suffering serious illness.
Grace is survived by her son, Peter E. Spinney and his wife, Marjorie, of Gloucester; and her daughters, Susan E. Wilkins of New Port Richey, FL, and Nancy A. Lewis of Salisbury. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Peter S. Spinney (Geri) of Andover; Andrew C. Spinney (Amy) of Essex; Heather Spinney-Laidlaw (Brett) of Groton; Diana Parderlikes of Florida; Sharyn Lewis of Salisbury; and Shawn Lewis of Seabrook, NH; 11 great-grandchildren: Abram Spinney and Quentin Spinney, both of Lowell; Hayden Spinney (Olivia) of Danvers; Abigail Spinney of Essex; Lauren Laidlaw and Ashton Laidlaw, both of Groton; Jamie Nikas, Suzana Nikas, Patience Parker, and Gracie Scoggin, all of Florida; and Juliana Lewis of Salisbury; a step-grandchild, Amalia Breveleri of Andover; four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, John, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sharyn L. Meyers; her son, John H. Carabineris, Jr.; her sisters, Lillian Brown and Leila Donahue, both of Beverly, and Hilda (Billie) Antoon, of Colorado; her brother, Clyde Hicks, of Nebraska; and her son-in-law, Stephen Lewis, of Salisbury.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no funeral services. Following cremation, private interment will take place in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Peabody, at a later date.
