DANVERS- Mr. Harold D. "Red" Hobson Jr. 87, of Danvers, beloved husband of the late Barbara (Smallwood) Hobson, died Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Harold D. Sr., and Dorothy (Bush) Hobson. He was raised and educated in Lynn.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
Red returned home and began a long successful career with the General Electric Company. He completed the apprenticeship program through the GE and became a machinist having been employed at the General Electric River works Plant in Lynn for many years until the time of his retirement.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Hobson was a dedicated family man. He was a long time resident of the Town of Danvers and was an active member of the First Church Danvers, Congregational. He enjoyed spending his free time bowling, woodworking and watching sports. He was a member of the Amity-Mosaic Lodge in Danvers and loved to travel to his lake home with family and friends at Merry Meeting Lake in New Durham, New Hampshire. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Red is survived by his sons, Peter Hobson and his wife Paula of Danvers and Thomas Hobson and his wife Carol of New Rochelle, N.Y., his five grandchildren, Jaime, Lindsay, Alexandra, Gwen and Thomas, his three great grandchildren, Layla, Cameron and Jack and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Charles Hobson.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the First Church Danvers, Congregational, 41 Centre St., Danvers, Monday, Dec. 14th at 1 P.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. As requested visiting hours omitted. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Red's memory to the Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
