Obituary

SALEM – Mr. Harry Margaretes Andrews, 84 of Salem, loving husband of Cheryl E. (Lurvey) Andrews, and longtime proprietor of HMA Car Care Systems Inc, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Lynn, Harry, affectionately known as Bob or Bobby, was the son of the late Louis and Ethel (Kritikos) Andrews. He was raised and educated in Swampscott and was a graduate of Swampscott High School, class of 1959 where he excelled in football and was honored to serve as the team's Captain in which he was inducted into the Swampscott High Athletic Hall of Fame. Bob continued his education at Nasson College in Maine where he earned his bachelor's degree in Business.

With a true entrepreneurial spirit, Bob started his career partnering with the Burger Chef franchise at his 72 North Street property in Salem. Later, he saw the need for a car wash business on the North Shore, which inspired him to redevelop the North Street property into HMA Car Care Systems Inc of Salem. With services that included detailing and a boat division, Bob took great pride in maintaining the property and creating world-class marketing slogans. For over 53 years, Bob's company was a staple of North Salem until his retirement.

Bob was known for his professional success, customer focus, all-around pleasantness, warm heart, generosity, and joking spirit. A man of wisdom and humor, Bob was a natural at making those around him smile with his unforgettable and notorious "dad jokes." A true captain at heart, Bob had a passion for the ocean. Whether he was sailing, fishing, or simply enjoying the beauty of the sea, especially when he was the captain of his sailboat the Renasci . Alongside his deep love for the ocean, he nurtured a variety of interests, including running, tennis, and skiing, and all things Boston sports. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife, Cheryl with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, Bob is survived by his beloved sons, Greg Lucas Elliott Andrews and his fiancé, Angela Christoforos of Danvers, and Luke Damon Andrews and his wife, Elisabeth Wilcox-Andrews of Beverly; the many dogs in his life, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his two sisters, Elaine Demetroulakos and Betty Andrews.
