PEABODY – Mr. Henry J. LaPointe, 91 of Peabody, formerly of Salem and Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away on February 24, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Salem on April 14, 1931, he was the son of Emile and Diana (St. Pierre) LaPointe. Husband of Rita (McCool) LaPointe with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. He was raised and educated in the Salem school system.

As a proud veteran, Henry began serving his country when in his teens he joined the Massachusetts State Guard. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1948. His service career took him to Erlangen, Germany, then to Korea. After returning home he remained with the National Guard until his retirement in 1990.

Henry worked for the City of Salem and upon his retirement he moved to Florida where he and Rita spent many happy years together. Henry dabbled in woodworking and was known to make lawn objects which he would often gift to his friends and neighbors.

Henry is survived by his loving wife Rita, three daughters, Nancy LaPointe of Haverhill, Brenda Darisse and her husband, Joseph of Topsfield, and Patricia Kee of Danvers. Three sons, Michael LaPointe and his wife, Nancy of Kingston, NH, John LaPointe of Beverly, and James of Texas, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Lorraine Altobelli and Sandra Santos and her husband, William. He was pre-deceased by one grandson, John Joseph LaPointe.

Henry will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and practical jokes. He will be dearly missed.
