June 3, 1943 – August 17, 2022
Of Topsfield, MA, Jackson W. Garfield Jr., age 79 years, devoted husband of Geraldine (Jill) Garfield, peacefully passed away Wednesday evening, August 17, 2022, surrounded by family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Jackson W. and Lillian E. (Baker) Garfield, he grew up in Hamilton, Ma until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1962-1968 stationed with the "Bulldogs" VMA-223 MAG12 out of Chu Lai, South Vietnam. During his enlistment his squadron flew some of the most successful air to ground support missions of the entire Vietnam War. After his return from action, he would go on to serve with the Marine Corps Reserve. Following his enlistment Jackson worked in equipment sales/construction around the New England area from companies such as Polaris Snowmobiles, Gagnon Welding and Contracting, US Jetting, and Spartan Tool. He also served as the head of buildings and grounds at the Trinity Church, Topsfield from 1991-2003. Best known for his humor and storytelling ability he would have an entire rooms attention only to leave them laughing to the point of tears. He enjoyed collecting and restoring Jeeps, Land Rovers, boats, John Deere tractors, and military vehicles. He was most proud of his historic Topsfield estate which he spent years remodeling and maintaining. In his younger years you could find him working in the yard on one of his many projects or out on "safari" with his two children. His later years were spent playing with his grandchildren and teaching them all the "Garfield" traditions. Mr. Garfield leaves behind his loving wife Jill, his son, Todd J. Garfield and his wife Katie of Amesbury, his beloved sister Melissa Stewart and her husband Carlton of Keene, NH, his sister-in-law Martha Garfield of Hamilton, his most cherished grandchildren, Emmett and Luciana Garfield, his brother-in-law, Gary Cowell and his wife Joann Zepelli of Georgetown and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Tyler C. Garfield of Topsfield and brother of the late Conrad Garfield of Hamilton.
ARRANGEMENTS: Following his wishes, A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date following a private burial service. In Lieu of flowers the Garfield's ask that a donation be made to DAV Disabled Veterans of America in his name at www.dav.org .
