SALEM- Mr. James Phillip Armstrong 72 of Salem, beloved companion of Janel McCue, died Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Charlotte (MacDonald) Armstrong. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army. Mr. Armstrong had been employed for over 25 years at the former Parker Brothers Games in Salem. He began a second career with the City of Salem Planning Department as the Housing Inspector a position he held for 20 years until the time of his retirement. A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, James had many diverse talents. From a young age he was a member and bugler in the Cardinals Drum Corps of Beverly. Also a gifted artist, he enjoyed spending his time painting, drawing and expressing his abilities with all types of mediums. He had a passion for the ocean and loved to spend time at Winter Island in Salem. He had an outgoing personality which endeared him to many and was devoted to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. James is survived by his sons, Joseph James Armstrong and his wife Kerry of Danvers and James William Armstrong and his wife Kristen of Salem, his five grandchildren, Maxwell, Alexis, Jack, Tyler and Luke Armstrong, his sister, Judith Pickard of Beverly and his beloved companion Janel McCue of Salem. He was the father of the late James Phillip Armstrong and the late Jessica Ann Armstrong.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Monday, June 6th at 11:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited.
