SALEM- Mr. James E. Coughlin, 85, of Salem beloved husband of 61 years to Christine (Foye) Coughlin, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022, with his family by his side.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Mary Irene (Shaw) Coughlin. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School Class 1954. Jim continued his education at Wentworth Technical School where he received his Associates Degree.

An honorably discharged veteran, Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

Faith was important to Jim, he and his wife, Chris are long time communicants of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem.

He was a self-employed appliance serviceman and loved his customers. Jim was the first person to call when something needed fixing. He was honest, hardworking, and getting the job done and done right the first time was his hallmark. He had a strong handshake, an infectious smile and loved to laugh. He was good with his hands and taught the value of "fixing it yourself". He often talked about his appreciation for the trades while watching This Old House or The New Yankee Workshop.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, and friend Jim was a hardworking man who cared deeply for his family and was truly happiest when surrounded by them.  He looked forward to spending time with his wife, Square-Dancing and travelling to some very beautiful places together. They loved music, art, history and visiting antique shops wherever they travelled, to see if there was something nice to bring back home. He enjoyed summer vacations at Lovell Lake with his family skipping rocks and throwing snowballs with his grandchildren in the wintertime. His love of sailing and living near the ocean was very important to him. He would often take drives down to Winter Island to meet with friends, talk and just watch the waves.

Jim believed in giving back to his community, he generously gave of his time for many causes. He and Christine taught EMT's as volunteers, he and his SeaBees and trades buddies often helped each other on various projects at their houses or at Camp Naumkeg, near the Willows, volunteering their labor. Plumbers, electricians, plasterers and carpenters, he knew them all and found ways to get things done with friends. Then maybe they would go out and play golf. Jim will be fondly remembered for his generosity to others, his love for family and dedication to his friends and will be deeply missed by them.

Surviving Jim, in addition to his wife, Christine of Salem, are his daughters, Carol Augulewicz and her husband, Richard of Beverly, and Marie Mannion of Derry, NH, his son, Mitchell Coughlin and his wife, Beth of Beverly, his grandchildren, Dylan Mannion, Kyle Coughlin, Andrew Coughlin, Grace Coughlin and Ashley Augulewicz, his brothers, William and Janice Coughlin of Delaware and Neil and Judi Coughlin of New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.
