IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Francis
Higgins
November 11, 1930 – December 15, 2023
PEABODY – Mr. James F. Higgins, 93, passed away on Friday, December 15th, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Jim was born in Limerick, ME in 1930 just after his parents sailed across the pond from Ballymote, Ireland to start a new life in America. Jim grew up in Peabody, attending Saint John's Elementary School and Peabody High School. After graduation he went on to honorably serve for 8 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Professionally, Mr. Higgins was a union Vice President at AC Lawrence in Peabody for many years. His final job was working as the custodian of the Salem Public Library for 25 years.
Jim grew up with 6 sisters; surviving him are Claire and Agnes, both of Salem. Jim was married to Jeanne Carr, who passed away 3 years ago. They had 5 children James and his wife, Patricia Higgins along with their sons, Josh and Jake; Barbara Brachanow and her daughters, Alison and Laura, Rosemary Gleason and her husband, Andrew; Maureen Pelletier and her husband, Paul along with their daughters, Tara and Cassandra; Kathleen Valido and her husband, Dean along with their daughter, Brianna. Jim left behind many nieces and nephews; Donnie Kilduff being the nephew who wrote the underlying farewell:
Most significant in Jim's life was his active participation in Alcoholics Anonymous, Old Salem Group. For 65 years he gave the gift of sobriety to so many sick and suffering alcoholics, and wiped away many tears of families he never even met. His undying legacy will continue for generations and save many dark lost souls. His work is done now, he got his wish, passing peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. Jim, it's time to rest and embrace the peace you have earned. "God help me a drunk."
