Horgan

BEVERLY - Mr. James T. Horgan, 98, of Beverly, formerly of Worcester and Nice, France, beloved husband of the late Claire Simone (Catherine) Horgan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in Beverly, with his son by his side. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late James R. and Julia Agnes (Rice) Horgan. Raised and educated in Worcester, he attended Worcester Public Schools and was a graduate of Worcester's Classical High School. James continued his education at the University of Notre Dame. His education at Notre Dame began in 1941, but was interrupted in June 1943 when he enlisted in the Army to serve in WWII. After completing his service in March 1946 he returned to Notre Dame graduating with a BS in Commerce in 1947. An honorably discharged WWII Veteran, James proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant. He engaged in WWII with the 1st Army, and was part of the D-Day invasion, landing on Omaha Beach. Following the invasion he was transferred into Patton's 3rd Army, 71st Infantry Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Citation (Invasion), and ETO Medal. Upon graduation from Notre Dame, James continued his education studying International Commerce at the University of Lausanne, in Switzerland. He also took some courses at the University of Nice (France), and while there he met his wife Simone. They were married in Nice on June 24th 1950, and eventually relocated back to Worcester Massachusetts where they raised their family. They shared 67 years of marriage. Upon his return to the United States, James worked with as a private detective with his father at Horgan Detective Agency; and soon thereafter took over the business, running it for 37 years. Upon retirement he and Simone lived in France, just outside of Nice; and then returned to live in Beverly Massachusetts in their later years. James had a way of helping others whether it was in his occupation or throughout his everyday life. He was actively involved in the Rotary Clubs of both Worcester and Nice, and was involved in baseball for two decades, coaching teams in the Jesse Burkett Little League, West Side Babe Ruth, and Senior Babe Ruth of Worcester. He loved interacting with people and finding what made them unique and special. His kind heart and generosity will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. James is survived by his daughter, Michelle Dieudonne and her husband Gabriel of Cagnes-Sur-Mer, France and his son, Daniel Horgan and his wife Michelle of Hamilton, his six grandchildren, Alexandre and Elizabeth Dieudonne of France and Emily, Olivia, Paul and James Horgan of Hamilton, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dr. Robert Horgan of Washington DC.
ARRANGEMENTS: At the request of the family, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in James' memory to "Doctors Without Borders".
