PEABODY - Mrs. Janet H. Duffy, 85 of Peabody, formerly of Wooster, OH, and subsequently of Andover, MA, beloved wife of John Duffy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her family.
Born in Wooster, OH she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Virginia (Franks) Chenevey. She was raised and educated in Wooster and was a graduate of Wooster High School. Janet continued her education at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland where she received her master's degree in nursing and then on to Akron University where she received a master's degree in Education.
Janet dedicated herself to the nursing profession first at Aultman Hospital in Canton, OH where she specialized in Pediatrics and then at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where she served for over 24 years, first as a Nurse, Head Nurse and later as Staff Specialist where she touched countless lives with her unwavering compassion and expertise.
Throughout her life, Janet was a loving wife and mother and a devoted grandmother who cherished the time spent with family. She was truly happiest when spending time with her grandchildren. Janet loved going to high tea with her granddaughters, cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events, attending plays, and looked forward to back to school shopping trips to make sure they all had new outfits to start the new year.
Janet's ability to command respect came not only from her professional accomplishments but also from her peers and friends. She nurtured lifelong friendships from the time she was in nursing school and throughout her career always making time for a fun get away with friends. Janet's zest for life was apparent in all her endeavors. Always up for anything, Janet loved running the Andover Feaster Five with her family, long walks with her husband and playing a ruthless game of Euchre. Janet had a special ability to make everyone feel important and embodied the perfect balance of gentleness and strength. She will be forever remembered for her wisdom, generosity and compassion. The love Janet bestowed on her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Janet in addition to her husband John of Peabody are her sons, Sean Duffy and his wife Carolyn of Canton, CT, Michael Duffy and his wife Jessica of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Brian Duffy and his wife Jan of Methuen, her grandchildren, Jake, Ava, Ella Carter, River, Reaghan and Harry.
Janet adored her siblings; Les Chenevey and his wife Cathy, Randy Chenevey and his wife Nancy, Charlie Chenevey, and twins Ed Chenevey (pre-deceased by his wife Sheila) and Fred Chenevey and his wife Rita. Cherished sister, Sue Miller and her husband Dan along with many dear nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased in February by her brother, William (Bill) Chenevey and is survived by his wife Sue.
