Obituary

PEABODY - Mr. Jeff L. K. Chu, 84 of Peabody, beloved husband of Dora (Tsai) Chu, passed away peacefully on January 14th, 2025, at Brooksby Village Continuing Care surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hong Kong, Jeff was the son of the late Chu Chi Chong and Helen (Au Young) Chu. He was raised and educated in Hong Kong until he immigrated to the United States to attend college in 1958. He received his bachelor's degree from Bucknell University and his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

Jeff had a long and successful career at IBM where he designed microprocessor and memory chips for over 30 years until the time of his retirement. Jeff was awarded patents for his innovative chip designs. Hard work coupled with a strong work ethic endeared him to his colleagues, and he was often sought after for his expertise in the field.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, family was most important to Jeff. He was truly happiest when surrounded by them, got involved in their many activities and especially enjoyed time spent doting on his granddaughters. Upon retirement, he pursued his passion for travel. He and Dora visited every state in the country; trips that were planned in the greatest detail to ensure they got the most out of each visit. They also traveled to many other parts of the world on adventures that created many lasting memories. In his spare time, Jeff was a "Jack of all trades" as he loved to take things apart, put them back together and learn how things worked. He built his family home in Vermont where the family lived for 23 years. Jeff will be fondly remembered for his forever smile, love of family, generosity and kindness; and he will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.

Jeff leaves behind his wife Dora of 58 years; his daughter Becky, son-in-law Brandon, and his granddaughters, Sophie and Tabi Kelly of Newbury; his siblings, Kent Chu and his wife May of Arizona; Pak Chu of California; Anna Lee of Hong Kong; and many nieces and nephews. Jeff was predeceased by his beloved son Alan Chu.
