John E. "Jack" Mitchell

WOBURN – Mr. John E. “Jack” Mitchell, 74, of Woburn, the loving husband of Liz (Ferdinand) Mitchell, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Waltham, Jack was the son of the late John O. and Ann S. (Honekamp) Mitchell. He was raised in Salem and attended St. James grammar school and Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody, graduating in 1969. Jack continued his higher education at the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

From a young age, Jack understood the value of hard work and dedication. He had a keen interest in all things mechanical and during his teenage years worked at Michaud Bus Company maintaining and repairing the buses. Professionally, he embarked a 45+ year career with General Electric where he worked as a mechanic and engine assembler and later became a Union Steward as well as a Quality and Control Inspector within the organization.

With a deep love for his family, golfing, fishing, all New England sports, cars and his motorcycle, Jack lived a full and rich life. He loved hosting holiday get togethers with his family, especially Thanksgiving, and for over 50 years enjoyed a cherished week-long family reunion in Wells, Maine every summer. A true sports enthusiast, Jack devoted more than 30 years to semiprofessional football, playing and coaching for the Randolph Oilers. He and his wife traveled extensively, throughout the states and Canada, as their sons pursued their hockey programs. He was a big supporter of his sons as well as his grandsons’ sporting events. Jack also traveled with his large group of loyal friends to golf at various destinations and as far as Alaska to fish. He was a great man, with a personality that endeared him to many, he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his loving wife, Liz Mitchell of Woburn: Jack is survived by his sons, Mathew Mitchell of Simsbury, CT and Justin “Jay” Mitchell and his wife, Allison of Swampscott; his beloved grandchildren, Collin, Brandon, Robbie, Harry and Archie Mitchell; his siblings, Margaret Mitchell and her husband, Arthur Larson of York Beach, ME, Mary Mitchell of Danvers, Diane McGlynn and her husband, Jack of Middleton and Nancy Jordan of Plymouth: his brother-in-law, Archie Cerullo; his mother-in-law, Ivy Richardson of Glencove, NY; sister-in-law, Pamela (Ferdinand) Silva and her husband, Ernie; and beloved nieces and nephews, Johnny Murray and his wife, Stephanie, Stacey Stone and her husband, Donnie, Colleen Moody and her husband, Craig, Annie Walsh and her husband, Steve, Timothy Beil and his wife Marla, Mark Beil and the late Rob Jordan. Jack also leaves his beloved goddaughter, Bree (McConnell) Levitz. Jack was the brother of the late Marie (Mitchell) Murray and Bernie Mitchell.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jack’s funeral which will be held from O’Donnell Cremations - Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rt. 62) DANVERS on Friday, September 11th at 9:00 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass at St. Richard’s Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers at 10:00 A.M. with his burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 226, North St., Salem.
