DANVERS - Mr. John "Jack" Etherington, 86, of Danvers and Venice, Florida, beloved husband of Marilyn (Allen) Etherington, died peacefully, Sunday, September 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rochester, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Clifford and Alice Etherington. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1951. He continued his education earning his Master License in Refrigeration. An honorably discharged veteran he served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service to his country. Mr. Etherington had been employed as a Master Refrigeration Technician. He had been associated with GTE Sylvania for over 15 years and worked for more than 20 years with the former Purity Supreme supermarket chain in their refrigeration division. He retired in 1997. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Jack was an active member of the US Marine Corps league, volunteering much of his time in many of their charitable endeavors. He was a member of the American Legion NO-VEL Post 159, the VFW Post 181, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1308, all of Venice, Fl. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Elks Lodge 2378 in Englewood, Fl. A long-time resident of the Town of Danvers and Venice, Florida, Jack was an avid bowler and member of the Monday night league at Sunnyside. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and summers at Province Lake in East Wakefield, NH. He was known as the honorary "Keeper of Lake". Above all else family always came first. He was steadfast in his support of family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and vacations. He was always willing and able to lend a hand in times of need and his love of his family was true. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Jack's family would like to extend their great appreciation and thanks for the loving care he received from the nurses and staff at Care Dimensions. They are forever grateful. Jack is survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, Marilyn (Allen) Etherington, his children, Joan Joyce of Danvers, Eileen Finocchiaro and her husband Joe of Danvers, Alan J. Etherington and his wife Rita of Port St. Lucie, Fl, Beverly Freeman and her husband Ronald of Danvers, John "Mark" Etherington and his wife Cindy of Danvers and June McEachern and her husband Gary of Danvers, his 17 grandchildren, his 22 great grandchildren and his one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his siblings.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral services will be privately held. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers.
