Obituary

GLOUCESTER & TOPSFIELD – Mr. John Joseph Masiz, Esq., 65, of Gloucester and Topsfield, beloved fiancé and long term partner of Laura Stephens, died unexpectedly, Saturday, May 11th, 2024.

Born in Danvers, he was the son of Chester and Carol (Dube) Mscisz of Topsfield. He was raised and educated in Danvers, was a graduate of St. Mary of the Annunciation Schools and St. John's Preparatory School, class of 1977. He continued his education at Colby College, graduating in 1981. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 1985.

Mr. Masiz was a pioneer in the Pharmaceutical Research and Development field, guided by a true mission to impact and improve people's lives in a positive manner.

A long-time resident of the North Shore, John was an avid outdoorsman and boating enthusiast, who cherished time spent hunting and fishing. John was his happiest out on the open waters, surrounded by his family, friends and his beloved Laura at his side. He relished time spent with his friends at Pier 7 Marina in Gloucester. Family was at the heart of who John was, he never missed an event or milestone; encouraging his family through all of their life's occasions, always with a smile and forever with love. He will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his fiancé and truest love, Laura Stephens of Gloucester, his parents, Chester and Carol Mscisz of Topsfield, his brothers, Mark Mscisz and his wife, Lyn of Topsfield and Steven Mscisz of Gloucester, his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Hulecki and her husband, Andrew, Christopher Mscisz and his wife, Emily, Brittany Mscisz and Mark Thompson and Tucker Mscisz and Samantha Gjeltema, Laura's mother, Linda Stephens and Laura's sister, Julie Stephens, Laura's brother, Mark Stephens his wife, Alketa Stephens and their son Daniel Stephens and many extended family and friends. He was the brother-in-law of the late, Kathryn Ann (Mercier) Mscisz.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass which will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St., Topsfield, Saturday, May 18th at 10:30 A.M. (Please meet directly at the church). Burial is private. Visiting hours at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) DANVERS, Thursday, May 16th from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in John's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
