PEABODY - Dr. Joseph C. Cotreau 85, of Brooksby Village Peabody, formerly of Newburyport, beloved husband of Mary E. (Bishop) Cotreau, died Friday, May 25, 2018. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Clarence and Emilie (Doucette) Cotreau. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys High School. He continued his education at Dalhousie University of Halifax, Nova Scotia Dental School, where he earned his undergraduate and MD in Dentistry. Doctor Cotreau was the founder and proprietor of Dr. Joseph Cotreau D.D.S. of Newburyport for over 40 years until the time of his retirement in 1994. He was known for his caring and affable demeanor and ability to put all his patients at ease. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Joseph was a member of the North Shore Dental Society and the American Dental Association. He enjoyed painting and art and was devoted top his family. He was a longtime resident of Newburyport prior to moving to Hampton, N.H. for 17 years prior to moving to Brooksby Village in 2011. He will be deeply missed. He was dedicated to his faith and the faith community of LaSalette to which he was a long time member and made many life long friends. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary E. (Bishop) Cotreau of Peabody, his daughter Maggie Cotreau and her husband Scott Kerr of Estes Park, Co, his sons, William Cotreau and his wife Jessica of West Grove, Pa and Stephen Cotreau and his husband Danny Beamis of Southwest Harbor, Maine, his grandchildren, Ashley and Nicholas Harenberg and Steven Kerr.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass which will be held in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, Friday, June 1st at 1 P.M. Burial is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joe's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y., 10163.
