CLAREMONT, FL - Mr. Joseph J. McManus, Jr., son of Joseph J. McManus, Sr. and Elinor A. (Roust) McManus, husband of his beloved soulmate, Carol V. (Hasselman) McManus, brother of Eileen Monts, Mary Veinotte, Jean Grogan, Michael McManus and Lynne Ward, father of Jennifer (McManus) Panizo, stepfather of Lisa Toda and Aaron Hickson, grandfather of, Aidyn Panizo and Marcello Panizo, step grandfather of Chloe Toda, Cecelia Toda, Richard Hickson and Declan Hickson, brother-in-law of James Hasselman and sister-in-law of Holly Hasselman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was known as Grampy Turtle and loved all his many dogs. Joe was predeceased by his grandson  Keith Dzionkowski.

Mr. McManus graduated from Framingham North High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Army, enlisting in the Airborne Infantry in 1967. He served as rifleman, mortarman, and tunnel rat with the 4th 23rd Infantry, 25th Division in CuChi and Tay Ninh, Vietnam. He was awarded National Defense, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Purple Hearts, Bronze Star medals and the Combat Infantry Badge.

He retired from the U.S Postal Service after 33 years in Ashland, Massachusetts.

He and his wife, Carol, loved Disneyworld, Sanibel Island, and cruising. He was an avid outdoorsman, fishing, hunting, and trapping, and an avid snake and turtle collector. He was past president of the Massachusetts Trappers Association, Eastern Chapter.

ARRANGMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joe's funeral Mass which will be held in St. John the Baptist Church, Chestnut St., Peabody on Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at 12 P.M. (noon). Burial is private. Visiting hours in O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, November 4th from 4 to 7 P.M.
