Obituary

BEVERLY - Kathy Abbott, 67, of Beverly, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on the evening of July 25th, 2025.

Born in Melrose, Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late John Abbott and Eleanor Abbott (Virgin). Growing up, her family spent summers at their house on Gerry Island in Marblehead Harbor. Here, Kathy decided that from then on she always wanted to live by the ocean.

She was raised and educated on the North Shore, having graduated from Melrose High School in 1975 and later earned her bachelor's degree from Salem State University.

Kathy was recognized for her entrepreneurial spirit. Finding her ambition, she ran a popular snack bar at her family's business at Hockeytown USA. Throughout this period, her independence grew, and she became known as a strong businesswoman.

Having saved enough money to start traveling, Kathy set off in search of adventure. Some of her favorite places traveled included Zambia, Burma, Germany, and Australia. Notably, she visited every continent, except Antarctica – in lieu of visiting her seventh and final continent, Kathy opted to plant roots in Beverly and purchase her first home.

Her next great adventure was raising her daughter, Anna Lee. After giving birth, Kathy sought out a new community and found comfort at La Leche League, a breastfeeding support group, where she found friends for life. Years after her daughter had grown up, Kathy started a Lactation Consulting business of her own, where she helped mothers and babies connect across the East Coast.

In recent years, Kathy discovered a new community that helped her flourish into her authentic self within the Salem arts and live music scene. She enjoyed her time making creative art pieces, listening to local live bands, and making new friends with anyone who came into her circle. An enthusiastic and lively artist herself, Kathy brought color into everything she did, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Surviving Kathy are her daughter, Anna Johnson of Beverly, MA, as well as her brothers Clifford F. Abbott of Green Bay, WI, Kenneth J. Abbott of Juno, FL, Lawrence W. Abbott of Saugus, MA., and her many treasured nieces and nephews.
