IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leopoldo A.
"Leo" Johnson
May 29, 1935 – March 8, 2022
DANVERS – Mr. Leopoldo A. "Leo" Johnson, 86 of Danvers, beloved husband of the late Cecile (Picard) Johnson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Beverly Hospital with his devoted family by his side.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Leo was the son of the late Carlos and Emelina (Artze) Johnson and brother of the late Carlos Johnson. Raised and educated in Cuba, Leo established at a young age the value of hard work and dedication, earning his bachelor's degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy. At the young age of 24, he immigrated to the United States to start his professional career.
Shortly after emigrating to the US, Leo was performing at a piano concert and was introduced by mutual friends to the love of his life Cecile. They were married just six months later. Focusing on building his family and career, Leo started working as a Composition Chemist and eventually became the President and CEO of C.L. Hauthaway & Sons Corporation of Lynn, an impressive accomplishment for a man who emigrated from Cuba with nothing more than his clothes and education. Through his many years at Hauthaway, Leo brought the company to new heights, proudly establishing the company as the well-known coatings and adhesives provider it is today. As Leo's professional career slowed down, he was extremely proud to have his own son Ted continue his legacy as the present CEO of Hauthaway.
A man who worked hard but played even harder: Leo loved to have a good time, especially when visiting outstanding local restaurants and striking up conversations at the bar— Leo made friends wherever he went. He never forgot where he came from and understood that it was his own perseverance that afforded him the rich opportunities of life. Leo was a globetrotter who enjoyed exploring the world with his late wife Cecile, and always shared the stories of these adventures with his children and grandchildren. After Cecile's passing, Leo continued his adventures with regular trips to Miami, Florida and Crystal Cruises. Leo loved Cadillac cars and drove them often. He enjoyed spending time on the ocean with his family and friends, boating and sailing and spent many years as the fleet captain for Boston Yacht Club. Leo was a member of the Manchester Bath and Tennis Club and was an extremely talented concert pianist who truly accomplished anything he put his mind to. Above all else, he was a loving family man, a devoted papa and friend to all who will be deeply missed.
Leo is survived by his children, Carlos Johnson and his partner, Isabel Latorre of Beverly, Yolanda Milliman-Richard and her husband, Bruce Richard of Auburndale, Elena Brousseau and her partner, Anthony LaMonica of Danvers, and Theodore Johnson and his wife, Shannon of Salem and his grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Chloe, Maxwell and Spencer Milliman, Celina and Jacqueline Brousseau and Reese and Marley Johnson.
