Obituary

SALEM – Mr. Leroy D. Briggs Jr., 73 of Peabody, formerly of Salem, died June 16th, 2023 at Salem Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Leroy Sr. and Hilda (Guy) Briggs. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1968. He continued his education at tradesman school earning the title of master machinist.

Leroy D. Briggs Jr. was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. His unique blend of humor, laid-back nature, and capacity for love made him a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends. He had a vibrant personality that could instantly light up any room and bring joy to those around him.

One of his greatest joys in life was spending quality time with his family and friends. He cherished these moments and found solace in their company. Whether it was a family gathering or a casual get-together with friends, he thrived in the warmth and love of these relationships.

Ms. Briggs was proprietor of Leroy's Car Service for over a decade and a machinist for several years. He continued his profession as a driver, which allowed him to meet new people regularly. Through this work, he formed genuine friendships with many individuals, turning acquaintances into lifelong connections. His exceptional talent for connecting with others and his genuine interest in their lives created lasting bonds.

Leroy had a deep appreciation for good food and sports. He relished the experience of savoring delicious meals and the camaraderie that came with sharing those moments with loved ones. Sports held a special place in his heart, providing excitement, entertainment, and opportunities to create shared memories with those who shared his enthusiasm.

For more than 30 years, Leroy was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). His commitment to personal growth, self-improvement, and supporting others on their journey to sobriety showcased his unwavering dedication. This experience deepened his capacity for empathy and compassion, allowing him to understand the challenges faced by individuals fighting similar battles.

Leroy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughters, Tara Briggs and her husband Brian Zawacki of Beverly, Alison Lane and her husband Andrew Lane of Ipswich, and Gael Johnson of Middleborough, his grandchildren; Janessa Briggs and her fiancé William Harrison IV of Beverly, and Lillian Lane of Ipswich, his great grandson William Harrison V of Beverly, and his sisters Shirley Goodwin of Beverly, and Janet Lettich and her husband Mark of Danvers, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leroy is preceded in death by his son Leroy G. Briggs and his sister Linda M. Briggs.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends invited to attend his visiting hours on Friday, June 23rd, 2023 from 4 to 8 P.M at O'Donnell Cremations –Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM. Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem on Saturday, June 24th, 2023 at 10 A.M. Please meet directly at the cemetery.
