DANVERS – Leroy J. Carter, 87 of Danvers, loving husband of Rita (Nowak) Carter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Boston, Leroy was the son of the late Roy and Wanda P. (Furtek) Carter. Leroy attended primary school at St. John's the Baptist School in Salem, graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn and received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University.
An honorably discharged veteran, Leroy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island.
Leroy embarked on a long and successful career as an Electrical Engineer at Boston Edison where he was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail and his dedication to his craft.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Leroy was truly happiest when surrounded by his family. He was very proud of his children's many accomplishments and milestones. He and Rita enjoyed following his grandchildren's many activities and being involved in their lives. Throughout his life, Leroy found immense joy in the simple pleasures of fishing, exploring the great outdoors, and spending time at their cottage in Maine. He was an avid traveler, making his way around the globe. His love and dedication were most evident in his 61-year marriage, a union that stood as a testament to unwavering commitment and enduring love. Leroy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and leadership within the Boy Scouts which exemplified his selfless nature and commitment to serving his community and mentoring the younger generation. His impact on those he guided and inspired will continue to be felt for years to come.
In addition to his wife Rita, Leroy is survived by his children, Stephen Carter and wife Lois of Bedford, NH, David Carter and wife Tara of Annville, PA, Jeffrey Carter and wife Kieu Oanh of Windham, NH, Mary (Carter) Ciampa and husband Steven of Peabody, MA, his grandchildren Steven Ciampa Jr., Stephanie (Ciampa) Lavoie and husband Christopher, Andrew, Nicholas, Eric, Mia and Ryan along with two great grandchildren Kyleigh and Nash and several nieces and nephews. Leroy was predeceased by his sister Celia (Carter) Wear and husband Donald Wear and Pauline (Carter) Mahoney and husband James Mahoney.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Leroy's funeral service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11 A.M. Visiting hours will be held Monday, September 16th from 5 to 8 P.M.
