Obituary

DANVERS – Loretta (Makarowitz) Duclow, 90, of Danvers, formerly of Salem, wife of the late Robert E. Duclow, died on April 25, 2025 in Beverly surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Jane (Wydra) Makarowitz.

Loretta was raised and educated in Salem, a graduate of Salem High School. Professionally, she worked as a bookkeeper for many Northshore businesses including Stanley B.  Hale, CPA, Sunnyside Bowladrome and Sam & Joe's Restaurant.

A long-time resident of Danvers, Loretta was an active and cherished participant at the Danvers Senior Center, where her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. She cultivated not only a vibrant garden but also deep connections within her community. A dedicated member of the Danvers Garden Club, she celebrated her remarkable 50-year anniversary, proudly becoming the oldest and longest-serving member of the Club. Loretta's love for gardening was evident as she nurtured an array of vegetables and flowers, often sharing her bounty and delighting in the art of floral arrangement.

Loretta was also a long-standing member of the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, where she, along with her husband, enjoyed the camaraderie and fresh air that sports and outdoor activities provided. Her independence and organizational skills were matched only by her affectionate nature, making her a beloved figure among all that knew her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Loretta is predeceased by her sister Dorothea Codinha.

Loretta is survived by her sons, Mark Cleaves and his fiancée Kim of Gloucester, Virginia and North Dighton, MA, along with their family, Jordan and Jared Menard, and her great grand-children, Troy and Grady Gunter (all of North Dighton) and David Cleaves of Killington, Vermont, her sister, Sandra DePiero and her husband Donald of Beverly, and their children Brian DePiero of Hamilton, Douglas DePiero of Swampscott, Michael DePiero and Christopher DePiero both of Beverly; and her niece Phaedra Codinha of West Peabody, and several grand nieces and nephews.
