IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine M.
(Sardi) Quinn
February 21, 1929 – October 2, 2022
BEVERLY - Lorraine M. [Sardi] Quinn of Beverly died October 2, 2022 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Springfield MA, Lorraine was the youngest daughter of the late Giuseppe Sardi and Lorenzina [Bonzi] Sardi from the Piedmont region Italy, sister to the late Vera [Sardi] Albano and half-sister to Fede [Sardi] Boita, and beloved wife of the late Dr. John E. Quinn. Lorraine was raised and educated in Springfield, a member of Commerce High School's class of 1946. She continued her education — the first in her family to do so — graduating from Salem Teachers College [now Salem State University] in 1950.
Lorraine began her professional career in Salem, teaching primarily English to war veterans returning from World War II. Living on Washington Street at the time, a dashing young man in a bright yellow convertible drove by, catching her eye. Love bloomed. John and Lorraine were married in Springfield on October 17, 1953. The young couple bought a home in the Shingleville neighborhood of Beverly, where they raised their two daughters, Ellen Quinn of Chapel Hill NC and S. [Susan] Quinn of Los Angeles CA, where they both retired, and where Lorraine resided until her passing.
When their daughters started elementary school, Lorraine continued her career as a secretary, then office administrator, and finally office manager at various medical practices in the area, with the bulk of her career spent at the ophthalmology office of Dr. Joseph J. Greco, MD in Salem.
Lorraine had a creative spirit, encouraging John early in their marriage to join her for oil painting lessons at the Beverly Guild of Artists — they both became quite accomplished. An avid gardener, her yard is an impressionistic masterpiece of color, texture, and form from early spring to late fall. Rarely idle, Lorraine was a prolific knitter, needle-pointer, and arranger of flowers. She was a discerning, steady, thoughtful person who will be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition to her daughters, Lorraine is survived by two nieces, Lorrie [Albano] Bourque and Barbara Quinn, and two nephews Rick Quinn and Peter Albano. She also leaves behind her devoted companion, a tuxedo cat named Salty.
