SALEM – Miss Lourdes “Mariana” Pena 65 of Salem, died peacefully, February 2nd, 2026, at Salem Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of Rafael Eduardo Pena and Ereminda del Carmen Borbon. She was raised and educated in Santiago, D.R. and earned her cosmetology certificate.
Mariana was a professional hairdresser and beautician while residing in the Dominican Republic. Upon immigrating to the United States, she had been employed as a food service worker at Salem State University.
On January 1st, 1998, Mariana and her family immigrated to the United States, making Salem their forever home and community. She lived in Salem for close to 30 years. She was a weekly communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem and was very devoted to her faith. She enjoyed spending her time playing cards and was an avid bingo player. Above all else, family always came first to Mariana, and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved.
Mariana was the last of her family to come to the US. Her devotion to her family, kept her in her home country raising her younger siblings and their children. Always putting others before herself. She was the true matriarch of her family and extended family and a beloved member of the Salem Dominican Community. She will be forever missed and always remembered.
Mariana is survived by her children, Lourdes Maria Tavarez, Fernando Jesus Tavarez Pena, U.S.M.C. and Yordanis Pena, her beloved grandchildren, Esmerie, Estela, Chloe, Elena and Jovani, her siblings, Catalina, Carlos, Paula, Ruth, Rafael, Jose, Eladio, Yesenia and Sergio and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Chestnut St., Peabody, Monday, Feb. 9th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. SALEM – La Sra. Lourdes “Mariana” Pena, de 65 años, de Salem, falleció pacíficamente el 2 de febrero de 2026 en el Hospital de Salem tras una valiente lucha contra el cáncer.
Nacida en Santiago, República Dominicana, era hija de Rafael Eduardo Pena y Ereminda del Carmen Borbon. Se crió y se educó en Santiago, República Dominicana, donde obtuvo su certificado de cosmetología.
Mariana fue peluquera y esteticista profesional mientras residió en la República Dominicana. Tras emigrar a Estados Unidos, trabajó en el servicio de comedor de la Universidad Estatal de Salem.
El 1 de enero de 1998, Mariana y su familia emigraron a Estados Unidos, estableciéndose en Salem, que se convirtió en su hogar y comunidad per-manente. Vivió en Salem durante casi 30 años. Asistía semanalmente a la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción en Salem y era muy devota de su fe. Le gustaba jugar a las cartas y era una ávida jugadora de bingo. Sobre todo, la familia siempre fue lo primero para Mariana, y era más feliz cuando estaba rodeada de sus seres queridos.
Mariana fue la última de su familia en llegar a Estados Unidos. Su devoción a su familia la mantuvo en su país natal, cuidando de sus hermanos menores y sus hijos, siempre anteponiendo las necesidades de los demás a las suyas. Fue la verdadera matriarca de su familia y de su familia extendida, y un miembro muy querido de la comunidad dominicana de Salem. Se extrañará por siempre y siempre será recordada.
A Mariana le sobreviven sus hijos, Lourdes Maria Tavarez, Fernando Jesús Tavarez Pena, miembro del Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos, y Yordanis Pena; sus queridos nietos, Esmerie, Estela, Chloe, Elena y Jovani; sus hermanos, Catalina, Carlos, Paula, Ruth, Rafael, Jose, Eladio, Yesenia y Sergio; y muchos sobrinos, sobrinas, demás familiares y amigos.
SERVICIOS FUNERARIOS: La misa fúnebre se celebrará en la Iglesia San Juan Bautista, en Chestnut St., Peabody, el lunes 9 de febrero a las 10:00 a. m. Familiares y amigos están invitados. El entierro será en el Cementerio Greenlawn, en Salem.
