SALEM - Lyn L. Southern, 71 of Salem, formerly of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Joan Southern. She was raised and educated in both California and Massachusetts, graduating from Winchester High School with the Class of 1972.

A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Lyn prioritized her family and cherished friendships above all else. She took immense pride in her role as a mother to her daughter and son, finding her greatest joy in celebrating the achievements and activities of her beloved grandchildren. Her love for music, passion for dancing, avid reading, and enthusiasm for movies brought vibrancy to her life. Lyn will forever be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and the warmth she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lyn's cherished family includes her daughter, Samantha Southern of Salem, and her son, Timothy Southern, along with his wife, Sarah, of Columbus, GA. She was the proud grandmother of Jacob "JJ" Darisse of Salem, as well as Elliot, Mason, William, and Benjamin "Benny" Southern of Columbus, GA. Her siblings: Ron Southern and his late wife, Ginger; Charlie Southern; Wally Southern and his wife, Fran; Jessica Whitney and her husband, David; Lisa Darnell and her husband, Mike; Arlene Southern; and Renee Bureau. Lyn is fondly remembered by her close friends Janet Hever, Michelle LeFrancois, and Penny Sullivan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Rhonda Johnson and William Freestone and very close friend Sarah Jean Whitcomb.
