IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Shirley
"Daisy" Locke
July 10, 1994 – July 17, 2024
WENHAM, MA – Margaret Shirley ("Daisy") Locke, age 30, died after years of declining health due to the effects of cancer and its treatment.
Born in Beverly, MA on July 10, 1994, Daisy was one of two children born to Barbara (Kelley) and Peter Locke and was the sister of Olly who adored her and who she loved very much. At age two, Daisy was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor. Although aggressive treatment drove the cancer into remission, it left her with significant physical and intellectual challenges that had a profound impact on her life.
Daisy grew up in Wenham and attended Cotting School in Lexington, which enables students with special needs to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence. She thrived in Cotting's loving community with her peers and teachers. While there, Daisy enjoyed ski trips, dances, prom, and was captain of the Falcon's basketball cheerleading squad. She was a proud Falcon – "Once a Falcon always a Falcon!"
After leaving Cotting at age 22, Daisy enjoyed the Communitas day program for adults with disabilities, which promoted her independence and individual potential.
To know her and be a part of Daisy's life was an extraordinary honor. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. When confronted with challenging medical issues, Daisy was fearless and made the best out of the worst circumstances. Up against long hospital stays, she focused on the positive, looking forward to the "room service" and unlimited TV.
Daisy loved spending time with her family and friends going to restaurants, movies, and traveling, especially to Disney. She loved music, singing, dancing, and holidays. Daisy led the annual family Christmas play and especially enjoyed dressing up on Halloween, spending hours strategizing with her aunt Suzy on their costumes each year.
Daisy's health challenges did not define her. She was a remarkably strong, courageous person who loved life and put her best foot forward every day. Daisy inspired everyone around her and motivated people to act for good. She was the catalyst for "Team Daisy," created to raise funds for research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon. Thanks to the generous support and participation of so many, Team Daisy's Pan-Mass Challenge fundraising efforts have to date exceeded $5M.
Daisy was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Peter, and is survived by her brother, Oliver; uncle Douglas and his wife, Patricia of Wenham; cousin Emma and her husband Michael (McGreal), and daughter, Cameran, of Wenham; aunt Suzanne and her husband, Wilberto (Lima), of Amesbury; aunt Sarah, and her husband John (Simon), and cousin, Abigail, of Hamilton. She was loved deeply by her family and all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
There have been so many who have brought joy to Daisy's life over the years and the family is forever grateful. Her family would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire team at Willowbrae, especially to Mary and Patience, for their loving support and care given to Daisy.
