Mrs. Marilyn (McHugh) Vandevelde 78, of Georgetown, formerly of Salem, beloved wife of the late Gene Vandevelde, died May 24th, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Madeline (Condon) McHugh. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. James Grammar and High Schools in Salem.
An honorably discharged veteran, she served her country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Mrs. Vandevelde had been a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Reno, Nevada, and Michigan prior to returning to reside in Georgetown for over thirty eight years. An artist at heart, Marilyn enjoyed painting. She was a member of many art and artists associations throughout the United States. She will be remembered for her tremendous sense of humor and how caring she was to her family and all of her dear friends. She will be deeply missed.
Marilyn is survived by her three sisters, Mary McHugh of Peabody, Dolores Lampron of Peabody and Rosemary Jones of Salem, her four brothers, Richard McHugh of Beverly, William McHugh of Salem, John McHugh of Lynn and Michael McHugh of Salem, many nieces, nephews and dear friends including Norma Eon of Salem and Catherine Viles of Marblehead. She was also the sister of the late James McHugh, Helen Maguire and Elizabeth Rust.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Wednesday at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cememtery, Salem. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Marilyn's memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
