Obituary

DANVERS – Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Crean) Carney, 98, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Warren Carney, passed away peacefully, on Friday, June 14th, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.

Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Catherine (Rennick) Crean. She was raised and educated in Peabody, before marrying the love of her life, Warren, where they settled and made Danvers their forever home.

Together with her husband Warren, with which they shared nearly 50 years of marriage, traveled extensively. Their favorite mode of travelling was sailing on cruise lines to exotic destinations, and then later in retirement, RVing to Florida for the winter months.

Mrs. Carney had been employed at the former Woodman's Drug in downtown Danvers for many years. Prior to her many years at Woodman's Drug, she had been employed for 18 years at G.T.E. Sylvania. Mary steadfastly volunteered at the Danvers Senior Center and at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church rectory for many years.

Mary was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend, who enjoyed cooking, gardening and later in life mastering the art of playing Bingo. She was a dedicated communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers. For her devotion and service to God and the church, she was awarded the Bishop Cheverus Award Medal in 2008 by the Archdiocese of Boston in its inaugural year. She was immensely humbled and proud of this distinction. She will be forever remembered and deeply missed.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Barbara Crean of Danvers and Richard Crean of Quincy and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was the sister of the late Catherine T. Arno and Philip, Francis and Charles Crean.
