Obituary

SALEM- Mrs. Mary Gertrude (Dukas) Hayes, 90, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Robert F. Hayes, died Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Lynn she was the daughter of the late Angelo Dukas and Etta M. Lewis. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. A loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Mary in her younger years had been employed with the General Electric Company as a secretary. Following her marriage to her beloved Robert, she dedicated her life to raising her treasured family. Later in life as an empty nester, Mrs. Hayes joined the work force again becoming a Clerk at the former Almy's Department Store in Salem until the time of her retirement. A woman of strong Catholic faith, Mary was a loyal and active communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. A longtime resident of the Willows section of Salem, Mary was an ardent supporter of all her families endeavors especially their love for the Musical Arts. She was an avid reader and journalist, chronicling her 26 cruises and her avid traveling adventures throughout the years. She was a prolific knitter and sewer known for her attention to detail and keen eye. Yet above all else her family was paramount. Mary is survived by her sons, Dennis P. Hayes and his wife Karen McCann of Farmington, ME, David P. Hayes and his wife Kathleen (Tivnan) of Peabody and Daniel P. Hayes and his wife Ellen Hayes of Concord, N.H, her grandchildren Patrick, Jonathan and his wife Kate, Sarah, Kevin and Michaela Hayes, her sister Edith Almeida of Salem and her brother Chester Dukas of California and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late William and Sallyann.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Tuesday, Feb., 4th at 11 A.M. followed by her funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd, Salem at 11:30 A.M. Visiting hours prior to the funeral from 9 to 10:45 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
