IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary K.
(Ouellette) (Fellows) Maccarthy
August 14, 1926 – January 2, 2025
BEVERLY, MA - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Mary on January 2nd, 2025 at her daughter's home in Salem MA
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathy Cammett of Beverly, Karen Salkins and her husband, Jack of Somersworth, NH and Janet Fellows of Salem; her daughter-in-law Donna Fellows of Beverly; grandchildren, Jimmy Bedford, Jesse Fellows and Zachary Fellows and his wife, Lisa.
Mary is also survived by two longtime friends, Joan Moquin of Peabody and Konnie Evans of Topsfield, along with several nieces and nephews across Massachusetts, Florida, New Hampshire and Texas.
She was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Katherine Ouellette; sisters, Eileen Main, Teresa Westerdahl, Helen Louise Maskell; brothers, James Ouellette, Edward Ouellette; her beloved husbands, John Fellows and Earle MacCarthy; children, Bobby Fellows, Ruthie Fellows, Christine Fellows; and her son-in-law, Dave Cammett.
A lifelong resident of Beverly, Mary grew up in Beverly Farms and attended St. Mary's High School and St. Margarets church. At 16 she graduated high school and was hired as a stenographer at Daniel Lowe & Company in Salem, MA. She met and married John Fellows with whom she shared six children. Mary served on the board of parent advocates of the North Shore ARC in the 1960s as Corresponding Secretary. She also was a great supporter of Bass River Inc. where her daughters attended daily workshops for the developmentally challenged. Mary was widowed at a young age and later married Earle MacCarthy and shared 30+ years of marriage.
Her family was always her priority and she was a caregiver to so many in her lifetime - her parents, her brother, her second husband and her disabled daughters. Mary loved going to the beach at all times of the year, loved music and going dancing and traveling with Earle. She loved to read, garden and would knit mittens and scarves in her later years to donate to local churches for children in need.
She kept up on the news of the day and especially the latest political climate. She loved to watch Wicked Tuna, To Catch a Smuggler, Jesse Watters Primetime and Hannity.
Mary represents the perseverance, integrity and strength of the "Greatest Generation" - she was driven, loving and patriotic!!! She was a witness to so much over her 98 years including the great depression, WWII, the Vietnam War, and so much more.
