SALEM – Mrs. Mary Theresa (Farinelli) Hagen, 94, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Frederick James Hagen Sr., died peacefully, Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Tarquinio A. and Mary E. (Riley) Farinelli. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s School in Salem and Salem High School.

Mrs. Hagen had been employed for over 20 years at Salem Hospital as a supervisor, until the time of her retirement. She had also been a server at many of the restaurants throughout Salem over the years.

A life long resident of Ward II in Salem, Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family always came first in her life and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She was a fixture at any and all their life events, from first communions, to dance recitals to sporting events and musical concerts, if her family was participating, Mary was there cheering them on. She was ultimately proud of her large Hagen, Farinelli and Riley clan.

A long-time communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem, Mary was also a long-time active member of the Ward II Social Club. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the matriarch of her family.

Mary is survived by her children, Mary Turcotte and her husband, Emile of Danvers, Judith Barker and her husband, Frank of Seabrook, NH, John Hagen of Tyngsboro, Dorothy Lavoie of Salem, Patrick Hagen and his wife, Maureen of Salem, Donna Kontarasis and her husband, John of Salem, Kathy Braley and her companion Ron of Peabody, James Hagen and his wife, Lori of Peabody, her 33 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren, her sisters, Dorothy MacDonald of Tewksbury and Eleanor Hughes and her husband Bob of Maine, her brother, Ralph Farinelli and his wife Linda of Salem and many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was the mother of the late Frederick J. Hagen Jr., Daniel E. Hagen, Timothy L. Hagen and David A. Hagen and sister of the late Anthony and Phillip Farinelli. She was the granddaughter of the late John P. Riley, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common) SALEM, Thursday, June 18th at 9 A.M. followed by her funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., Salem/ Peabody line at 10 A.M.. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Wednesday, June 17th from 4 to 7 P.M. Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
