MIDDLETON- Mrs. Mary J. Gerow (Wasilchuk) 93, of 15 Park Avenue, Middleton, died peacefully, Monday, May 4th, 2015 at her home. She retired as an aircraft inspector at General Electric with 40 years of service. While she worked at the General Electric Company, she received a message from the President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, for skill, industry and devotion on the production front of the greatest war in history. The production Army and Navy Award emblem.
She was the wife of the late George F. Gerow and daughter of the late John and Helen (Yachinuk) Wasilchuk. She was raised and educated in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School, J. B. Thomas School of Nursing and Boston Trade School, also in the Air Force Reserve. Taught cake decorating at Peabody High School evening classes also taught tailoring at Essex Aggie in Danvers. Took classes in rug braiding and made rugs for all the rooms in her home that she and her husband built. Enjoyed out door sports with her late husband, went hunting and fishing with their trailer. Had vegetable gardens and picked wild berries and made her jams and jellies. She grew her own flowers and took lessons in flower arrangements at Essex Aggie. She arranged flowers for the St. Agnes Church altar in Middleton for 60 years, sang in the church choir for 60 years. Loved to sew and made her own clothes and was said to be the best cook in town. She cooked for her favorite priests at St. Agnes Parish and was a member of St. Agnes Parish, and Senior Club also a member of the Town of Middleton Council on Aging. Mary loved to travel when she was well. She was preceded in death by her loving sister Olga Wasilchuk and brothers, Anthony, William, Alexander and Frederick. She is survived by her good friend and adopted Godson, Ronald Lambert of Tewksbury, who was always there for her before and after surgery and made sure she had food and medicines. She leaves a brother John of Peabody, a sister Alice Lauzon of Duxbury, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a dear friends Debbie Jones of Middleton who was always there to give a helping hand and her beloved "adopted son" the Reverend Michael Hobson.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be held in St. Agnes Church, Boston St., Middleton, Wednesday, May 12th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours in St. Agnes Church, Middleton, Tuesday, May 11th from 4 to 7 P.M.. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Mary's memory to the St. Agnes Church, Boston, St., Middleton, MA 01949.
