MARBLEHEAD - Maryanne “Mae” Wood, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully at Salem Hospital on February 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 21, 1958, to the late Charles and Constance (Fugale) Ward. She was the devoted wife of Daniel Wood, with whom she shared 41 extraordinary years of marriage.
Maryanne’s profound love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and brother was at the heart of her life. Her family meant everything to her, and it was clear that they filled her world with joy and purpose. Growing up in a devout Catholic family, her faith was not only a guiding principle but also a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. She cherished the memories of her upbringing in Salem, where she graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1976, surrounded by loving cousins, aunts, and uncles who remained important to her every step of the way.
Maryanne created a rich tapestry of experiences; woven together by the deep connections she formed with her family and community. Her life was a celebration of music, laughter, and the cherished moments of foreign adventures. As a passionate traveler, she explored breathtaking destinations like Ireland, Italy, and Paris, immersing herself in the beauty of each place.
Her taste in music mirrored her vibrant spirit, as she found joy in the sounds of the Rolling Stones and Joni Mitchell.
Another part of her family was her dog, Molly. Initially, she thought she wasn’t fond of dogs, but her family’s golden retriever, Molly, won her heart in the most unexpected way. Maryanne also had a remarkable gift for cooking and baking, lovingly crafting her sauces from scratch, sharing her culinary creations with those she cared for. Through her warmth and dedication, she left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Maryanne will be deeply missed, and leaves behind many people who are grateful to have known her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; her daughter Ashley, and her son John, and his wife Daniela; her grandchildren, Caden and Christian; her brother, John Ward and Carol Yi of New York City; and her cousin Camille Bresnahan from Salem.
