Obituary

HAVERHILL - Mrs. Maureen (Kilkelly) Sheehan, 86 of Haverhill, formerly of Peabody, and Swampscott, beloved wife of the late John A. Sheehan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness.

Born in Kinvara, County Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Annie (Whealen) Kilkelly and raised and educated in Ireland. Maureen continued her education in England and was a graduate of the Hammersmith School of Nursing. Maureen immigrated to the United States arriving in New York in 1962. Moving to Dorchester she met the love of her life, John at a dance, they married and moved to Swampscott where they raised their family.

Professionally, Maureen was a nurse who specialized in Geriatrics. She was admired by those she worked with for her compassion and dedication to her patients. Maureen's dedication to her patients was surpassed only by her devotion to her family. First and foremost, family was her passion. Maureen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, doting on her grandchildren, and making many happy memories. She was immensely proud of her family and their many accomplishments and was always there to share in their many milestones. Maureen loved music and loved to dance, especially with her favorite dance partner, John. She enjoyed bowling but especially appreciated just being with the people who meant the most to her.  A resident of the Town of Swampscott for many years, prior to moving to Peabody, she was an active communicant of St. Ann's Church in Peabody and a former communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott. Maureen will be forever remembered for her kind, compassionate nature, devotion to family and will be deeply missed by those who loved her and the many hearts she touched along the way.

Surviving Maureen are her children, Christine Sheehan of Ireland, Erin Sheehan and her husband, John Coyne of Atkinson, NH and Kevin Sheehan and his wife, Nicole of Boxborough, her grandchildren Molly Coyne of Atkinson, NH, Connor Sheehan and Piper Sheehan of Boxborough, her brother, Martin Kilkelly of Ardrahan, Ireland. Maureen was predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael, and her brother, Patrick Kilkelly.
