SALEM – Ms. Maureen Mahoney Wojcik, 63 of Peabody and Salem, passed away on Saturday, October 10th, 2026 at Beverly Hospital with her 3 children by her side.

Born in Salem, Maureen was the daughter of the late Francis Patrick and Margaret Jane (Roscoe) Mahoney. She was raised and educated in Salem, growing up on Rainbow Terrace and cherished her early friendships and memories of the neighborhood throughout her entire life. She attended Salem Public Schools, graduating from Salem High in 1981.

Maureen is survived by her three children, Samantha Rosano of Peabody, Travis Wojcik of Peabody and Jarrod Wojcik of Peabody; her brother, Matthew Mahoney and his wife, Dee of Fairless, PA; beloved nieces, Melissa, Jennifer, Kristin and Nicole; 7 great nieces and nephews; countless cousins and extended family from Ohio to Alabama. In addition to her parents, Frank and Margaret, Maureen was pre-deceased by her brother, Sean Mahoney and his wife, Kathleen.

Professionally, Maureen devoted her working career to serving others. She started her profession at Hogan Regional Center in Danvers and later the former Salem Jail assisting in the kitchen. Her passion for criminal justice led her to the Academy and landed her a position at the Essex County Correctional Facility. There, she quickly moved up the ranks like a true leader, retiring in 2010 as one of the very few female Correctional Captains at that time. Her time at the correctional facility was not always easy, but her personality and sociability allowed her to excel in her position and gain respect amongst her colleagues and within the organization.

Extremely social and outgoing, Maureen made friends wherever she went. She had a special bond with her father, Frank and following his passing, kept his spirit alive. She loved traveling, gardening, bonding with animals, spending time with the family children and furniture restoration. Maureen was quick to laugh, cared for others deeply, was ambitious and truly lived her life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
