DANVERS – Mr. Michael Spolsino, 73 of Danvers, loving husband of Hester (Hayes) Spolsino, passed away on Saturday, September 2nd at Melrose Wakefield Hospital from complications of COVID-19.
Born in Boston, Michael was the son of the late Nicholas and Mariangela (Marino) Spolsino. He grew up in East Boston, where he was a graduate of East Boston High School. Michael received a trade certificate in auto mechanics from M.D.T.A in 1968.
Michael was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a hero, a husband, a dad, a papa, an uncle, and a friend. Mike could put a smile on anyone's face. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Mike found joy in giving and doing for others. He was always willing to lend a listening ear, or hand whenever he could.
Michael was a proud United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He enlisted in the USAF from October 1969 – October 1973, and then served USAFR until his Honorable Discharge in October 1975. Michael served his country in combat from April 1971 to April 1972 at Da Nang AFB, Vietnam, as a Special Purpose Vehicle Repairman, assigned to the Fire Truck Maintenance Section. Michael was awarded, The Gunfighters of Danang Nereby Award, by the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing for his accomplishments with all assigned tasks.
His passion towards mechanics continued as he dedicated his entire professional career with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority as a shop foreman first starting with them in April of 1989, retiring in October of 2015. He enjoyed the team he worked with and considered them his second family.
In addition to his wife Hester, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, Michael is survived by his son, Christopher and his wife, Patricia; grandsons, Christian, William, and Hayden Spolsino; twin brother, Nicholas and his wife, Claire Spolsino; sister, Jenny and her late husband Chuck Connolly and many nieces and nephews.
