PEABODY – Nancy (Hammond) Moore, 94, loving wife of the late Garvin M. Moore, Jr., passed away on October 30, 2025 at Brooksby Village. Born in Cerro Gordo, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Palmer and Theo (Early) Hammond.
Nancy was raised and educated in Cerro Gordo, NC and was a graduate of Cerro Gordo High School. She completed her undergrad studies in Music Education at Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC. Nancy went on to earn her master's degree in Music from New York University.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Nancy dedicated her life to her family and to serving others. She was truly a public servant, giving her time and talents generously to causes that mattered deeply to her.
Nancy worked with Plan International, formerly known as Foster Parents Plan, and supported numerous foster children from around the world. Her career was as rich and varied as her interests—she served as a music teacher, organist, and pianist, as well as a Recreation Programs Leader with the U.S. Army on bases in Germany, France, and Alaska. She was also an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), an anti-racism activist, and a strong advocate for the people of Honduras.
A gifted musician, Nancy shared her love of music by teaching countless children to play piano and serving as the organist at Brooksby Village, where her music brought comfort and joy to many. She also found great happiness in gardening, especially with her beloved grandchildren.
Nancy's life was defined by compassion, creativity, and service. Her legacy of kindness and advocacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Judianne Moore of Danvers, her son, James Moore of Dorchester, and her grandchildren, Isobella and Aiden.
ARRANGEMENTS: A concert and celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Brooksby Village in the spring. A graveside committal service for Nancy and Garvin will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11A.M. at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake Street, Peabody.
