SALEM – Nelson A. DeRoin, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 28th, 2025. Born on March 16th, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, Nelson grew up in Everett, where he made a name for himself as a star football player at Everett High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
After high school, Nelson answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, proudly becoming a veteran who exemplified honor and courage.
An entrepreneur at heart, Nelson built a successful career by founding The House of Hearing, where he dedicated himself to helping people regain the gift of sound through the sale and repair of hearing aids.
A man of deep faith, Nelson was a devoted Catholic whose generosity knew no bounds. He regularly donated to charities to support the sick and those in need, always striving to make the world a better place.
Nelson's happiest moments were spent basking in the sunshine, tending to his beautifully landscaped lawn, watching sports and enjoying vacations with his loved ones. His love of life and ability to find joy in simple pleasures were an inspiration to all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, June; his three children; Craig, Wendy and Holly and his devoted granddaughter and best friend, Candace; several grandchildren; and two cherished great-granddaughters.
Nelson's warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Whether sharing a laugh or offering help to someone in need, Nelson's kindness was unmatched.
A true friend to all, Nelson had the unique ability to make people smile and feel at ease. His humor, selflessness, and genuine spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Nelson DeRoin's life was a testament to love, laughter, and service to others. May he rest in peace, forever held in the hearts of those he touched.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Nelson's funeral service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Monday, February 3rd at 12 P.M. (Noon) with his burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. A visiting hour will be held prior to his service from 11 A.M. to 12 Noon.
