Obituary

DANVERS - Mr. Niles P. Berry, of Danvers, formerly of Salem, beloved husband of Mary Lou (O'Connor) Berry, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Salem, he was the son of George N. Berry, Jr, and the late Eleanor T. (Cohane) Berry. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. Niles continued his education receiving his Bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State University and later receiving a second Bachelor's degree in Cartography and Geographical Information Systems from Salem State University.

Mr. Berry had been employed by the Town of Danvers as a Senior Distribution Engineer, for over 20 years, where he was known for his outgoing personality, strong work ethic and expertise in his field.

Niles was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who had a larger-than-life personality. To say Niles was a people person would be an understatement. He knew everyone, so it was a rare occasion when Niles would go somewhere and not meet someone he knew. He was a bartender in his spare time, he relished the time spent with the regulars and new patrons alike, many who became lifelong friends, telling and sharing stories and jokes. He was a 40-year veteran of the Salem Willows Horribles Parade, spent countless hours coaching softball and baseball and was an all-around good man. He was an avid Boston sports fan and participated in many sports over the years especially golf, baseball, and softball, the latter in which he met his wife. He appreciated the competition and camaraderie sports provided. Niles was the king of the one liners and could quote Seinfeld and adapt to fit any occasion.  He and Mary Lou enjoyed travelling and touring baseball stadiums, cruises and visiting the different states. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and caring husband and father. His great sense of humor, his devotion to family and friends will be deeply missed by all.

Surviving Niles, in addition to his wife Mary Lou, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage, is his son, Ryan Berry of Danvers, his father, George, his brothers, George N. Berry III and his wife, Rebecca of Beverly, Michael Berry and his partner, Robin Scott of Salem and Timothy Berry and his wife, Janet of Danvers, as well as many of his wife's family and several nieces and nephews.
