SALEM – Ms. Ofelia Maria Castro – Diaz, 79, of Salem, passed away Saturday, November 30th, 2024 at Mass General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in the Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of the late Ramon Antonio Castro and Carmen Rosa Diaz. She was raised and educated in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States in 1960. First settling in New York City but shortly thereafter moving to Salem in 2002, where she made her forever home.
In Ofelia's professional life, she worked as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at The Herrick House in Beverly. She was known to be a hardworking and compassionate soul, who put others before herself.
Ofelia was known to be the life of the party; she was the first to dance at any event. She was also an avid sewist. Ofelia often made towels, curtains and bed sheets, among many other items, for her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed.
Ofelia was survived by her sons, Jose Gil and Gonell Wall and his wife Ruth Worthen, all of Salem, along with her four grandchildren, Kaylin Wall, Anya Wall, Josmal Gil and Gianser Gil, and her siblings Lillian, Margot, Seila, Cinthia, Sujei, Miguelina, Rolando, Carlos, Yessi, Ana, Ingrid, Alberto and Elvin, among many other relatives.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM, Tuesday, Dec. 10th at 11 A.M. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours prior to the service will be held on Monday Dec. 9th from 5 to 7 P.M. SALEM - La Sra. Ofelia María Castro – Díaz, de 79 años, de Salem, falleció el sábado 30 de noviembre de 2024 en Mass General Hospital rodeada de su amada familia.
Nacida en República Dominicana, era hija del fallecido Ramón Antonio Castro y Carmen Rosa Díaz. Se crió y educó en la República Dominicana y emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1960. Primero se estableció en la ciudad de Nueva York, pero poco después se mudó a Salem en 2002, donde estableció su hogar definitivo.
En la vida profesional de Ofelia, trabajó como asistente de enfermería autorizada en The Herrick House en Beverly. Era conocida por ser un alma trabajadora y compasiva, que anteponía a los demás a sí misma.
Se sabía que Ofelia era el alma de la fiesta; ella fue la primera en bailar en cualquier evento. También era una ávida costurera. Ofelia solía hacer toallas, cortinas y sábanas, entre muchos otros artículos, para sus familiares y amigos. Fue una madre, abuela y amiga devota; la extrañaremos mucho.
A Ofelia le sobrevivieron sus hijos, José Gil y Gonell Wall and esposa Ruth Worthen, junto con sus cuatro nietos, Kaylin Wall, Anya Wall, Josmal Gil y Gianser Gil, y sus hermanos Lillian, Margot, Seila, Cinthia, Sujei, Miguelina, Rolando, Carlos, Yessi, Ana, Ingrid, Alberto y Elvin, entre muchos otros familiares.
