DANVERS – Paul Michael Scopa, 97, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025 at Hathorne Hill in Danvers. Born in Boston, Paul was the son of the late Henry and Philomena (DeRosa) Scopa.
Paul was raised and educated in East Boston. At just 17 years old, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. After his service, he attended Northeastern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in engineering. Paul went on to found Scopa Construction, a successful construction company that he operated until his retirement in 1975.
Deeply involved in his community, Paul was an active member of the Sons of Italy and the Vittori Rocci Post, and he served as a past commander at both the local and state levels of the Italian American War Veterans (IAWV). He was also a communicant of St. Richard's Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Beverly, and an avid golfer. Paul had a lifelong love for Cadillacs and Rat Pack music, coffee and dessert. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family deeply.
In addition to his parents, Paul is predeceased by his wife, Lillian (DeMelis) Scopa, his previous wife and mother of his daughter Paula, Eleanor (DeMelis) Scopa, and his sister, Eleanor (Scopa) Fabiano.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Paula Marie (Scopa) Lima and her husband Orlando of Danvers, his brother, Pasquale Scopa of East Boston, his grandchildren, Kendra (Lima) Maltais and her husband Daniel of Royalston, his grandson Michael Lima and his wife Alyssa of Danvers, his great-grandchildren, Emmarie James Maltais, Lucas Paul Lima, Rosalie Drew Maltais, and Logan Michael Lima, as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended Italian family.
ARRANGMENTS : Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 9:30A.M. until 11AM to be held at O'Donnell – Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple Street (RT 62), DANVERS. A funeral service and military honors will be held following the visiting hours at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date.
