PEABODY - Mr. Paul Michael Wood, 85 of Peabody, flew West to his Lord in Peabody, MA on March 12th, 2025 with his beloved wife Pauline (Lavoie) Wood by his side.
Born in Salem he was the son of the late Anthony and Agnes (Driscoll) Wood. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School in 1956. He continued his education receiving his bachelor's degree from Tufts University in 1960.
Paul was involved in the Boy Scouts of American throughout his childhood where he pledged honor to God and Country and developed the core values of loyalty, kindness and trustworthiness. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout the highest honor a scout can achieve and set him on his life's path.
An honorably discharged veteran Paul began United States Air Force pilot training in 1961. He flew the C-130E as aircraft commander in the 1608th Air Transport Wing at Charleston, SC until his separation in 1965.
Following his discharge from the service, Paul joined Trans World Airlines. At TWA he served as a flight engineer, first officer and captain on multiple aircraft on TWA's domestic and international routes. He served as an instructor and FAA check airman on the Boeing 727 and McDonald MD-80. In 1990 Captain Wood was presented with the TWA Award of Excellence, an honor presented to only one captain each year. He retired in 1997.
Paul along with his wife Pauline and their first toy poodle, Jean Luc, purchased a single-family home, they later purchased a single-family condo home in Hampton, NH and wintered in Naples, FL. They toured the United States and Canada in their New Lazy Daze RV, marveling in the spectacular beauty of the American West and Canadian Rockies. They also visited the Canadian Maritimes and many scenic places on the U.S. and Canadian East Coast. They reveled in the Lazy Daze friends they made and camped with twice each year.
Surviving Paul, in addition to his wife Pauline with whom he shared 43 years of marriage are his sons, Michael Wood and his wife Amy of Hampton, NH and Steven Wood and his wife Melissa and their children, Logan and Sierra of Fairfield, CT, his cousin Marilyn Conde and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of his late beloved son David Wood. Also predeceased by Jean Luc and Gabrielle, his poodle companions for 27 years.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Paul's funeral Mass which will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., Peabody on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 12 (noon). Burial is private. Visiting hours, prior to the Mass at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS from 10 to 11:30 AM.
