BYFIELD – Mr. Philip C. Casserly, 77, formerly of Somerville, passed away unexpectedly at Anna Jacques Hopsital surrounded by his loving family on August 14, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Mary L. (Cain) Casserly, with whom he spent 57 years of marriage.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Francis and Christine (Seaboyer) Casserly. He was raised and educated in Somerville, attending St. Clements High School and graduating from Somerville High School.
An honorably discharged disabled veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was overseas from 1969-1971.
Phil retired from the US Postal Service where he was a letter carrier for over 30 years in Boston and Somerville. He was well respected by all of his colleagues for his hard work. He was a man of many talents and when it came to construction he had knowledge in all fields of the business.
Phil was a long-time resident of Byfield and a card-carrying member of the NRA. He loved his family, his country and his faith. He was a devoted husband, a great father and grandfather. He was a true role model for his children and grandchildren. He was happiest when spending his time with his family. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
In addition to his parents, Phil is predeceased by his son Keith P. Casserly, his sister, Carol Amatangel, and his brothers, John and Thomas Casserly.
Phil is survived by his loving wife who he met in 1965 and married in 1969, Mary L. (Cain) Casserly of Byfield, his daughter, Cheryl Roach and her husband, Sean of Dover, NH, his son, Brian Casserly and his wife, Melissa of Windham, ME, his grandchildren, Colin, Thomas, Stephanie, Camryn, Ava, Briana and Jack, his brother, Robert Casserly and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) DANVERS on Friday, August 21st at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours on Thursday, August 20th from 4 to 7 PM. To share a memory or offer a condolence please visit www.odonnellfuneralservice.com.
