July 1, 1931 – December 24, 2022
PEABODY – Mr. Philip Rosario Russo, 91 of Peabody beloved husband of the late Joan K. (Flynn) Russo who passed away in March of 2022, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 24th, 2022 at Care One in Peabody.
Born in Boston, Philip was the son of the late Giacinto and Catherine (Aiesi) Russo of Sicily, Italy. Phil grew up in Medford and received his education there, graduating from Medford High School in 1950.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Philip proudly served his country during the Korean War Era. Following his discharge from the military, he continued to devote to his country working as a Postal worker handling mail for the United States Post Office for over 22 years.
Phil and his wife, Joan would spend 67 years together, raising a loving and loyal family, creating many fulfilling memories. Phil was all about his children, making sure to go the extra mile for them, ensuring that they wouldn't miss out on anything they needed. He was kind, accepting and loving. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially basketball, baseball, football and hockey and while raising his children would volunteer his time as a scout leader or teaching his children to play a sport. He loved music and playing bingo and would often share his winnings with others. His generosity will be fondly remembered and he will be deeply missed by his loving family and dear friends.
Philip is survived by his daughters, Catherine Russo, Cynthia Russo and Kelly Ann Denny all of Danvers; his son, Giacinto "George" Russo and his wife, Stacey of Plymouth; his grandsons, Daniel Russo, Justin Russo and Scott Denny and several great-grandchildren. Philip is also survived by his sister, Josephine Fredella of Woburn and numerous nieces and nephews. Philip was the grandfather of the late Philip Russo.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Philip's Funeral Service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, January 6th at 11 A.M. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Thursday, January 5th from 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phil's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
