SALEM – Mr. Raymond Dominic DiTroia, 84 of Salem, loving husband of Nancy L. (Valentine) DiTroia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Salem, Ray was the son of the late Orest and Frances (Amenta) DiTroia. He was educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School Class of 1960. Raised in a tight knit Italian family with his brothers and many cousins, Ray held these family bonds close throughout his life.
Honorably discharged from the Army National Guard, Ray proudly served his country for six years.
Professionally, Ray devoted his working career to Eastman Gelatine Corporation in Peabody where he worked his way from laborer to foreman group leader. Ray was well respected and liked amongst his coworkers and friends, maintaining many of these close friendships to this day. With an early retirement, Ray worked at the Salem Country Club as a well-loved bartender, creating memories and friendships to span his lifetime.
Ray was a man known for his kindness and outgoing spirit, never meeting a stranger. He embraced life with open arms and was recognized by friends and acquaintances wherever he went. Whether it was a trip to the Salem or Beverly Italian Clubs / Elks, VFW or wintering in Ft. Myers Beach, FL, someone knew Ray or Ray knew someone. Ray and Nancy also loved traveling with family and friends to many different locations both locally and abroad. Wherever they went a celebration followed!
A lover of all things sports, Ray found happiness both playing and watching games, and brought an infectious spirit to every gathering. Above all else, family meant the world to Ray. He was a supportive husband, loving father and a doting grandfather who took immense joy in attending and cheering for his grandchildren in their various pursuits. His genuine love and pride for his family were evident, and he adored spending time with them. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his beloved wife Nancy, with whom he celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage, Ray is survived by his daughters, Cristina Bonasera and her husband, James of Rowley and Debra Torsey and her husband, David of Peabody; his beloved grandchildren, Tyler Proulx, Mia Proulx, Nicolas Bonasera, Alexa Bonasera and Brendon Torsey; his brother, Richard DiTroia and his wife, Lisa of Georgia and many nieces, cousins, extended family and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his brother Robert DiTroia.
